Purification and ID of a plasmid
create an SOP training document. In that document you should have the following:
a title at the top of the first page. Please do not make a title page, just put the title at the top of the first page. Create a title for your document that accurately, clearly, and concisely reflects the emphasis and content of your paper. You should make this 14 point font and bold.
Place your name centered below the title. Your name should be in 11 or 12 point font.
An abstract. Every paper you write should be accompanied by an abstract once you reach a certain level. The abstract should briefly state the problem you’re trying to solve, or the purpose of the research. Make sure you indicate the theoretical or experimental plan used, summarize the principal findings, and point out the major conclusions. You get one paragraph only, and that paragraph can be no longer than one page doublespaced.
expand on the introduction that’s included in each lab and create a one-page summary of the relevant biology and chemistry behind the process. Try not to include much in the way of the history, and focus on the enzymes, proteins, macromolecules, etc. and what they do in the process. This is the hard-core science section.
Reword the materials and methods section. Remove it as a numbered list, and put the process into paragraph form. I don’t mean to just link each line. Describe the process in enough detail that someone could understand how the process works. Essentially, you’re going to leave out the specific amounts of all the materials, and just talk about how the materials are added together. In a published paper you would do this in a different method, that did include ratios, usually in the form of millimoles, but for this process leave out the masses and volumes. Just talk about the chemicals and how they’re used, and the order they are used in.
Create a chemical table. Create a table in your document that includes all of the chemicals being used, the amount (mass, volume, concentration, etc.), chemical formula appropriate, molecular mass, if it’s a liquid, include the density, first solids include the melting point, and chemical hazards.
Create a discussion section. In this section determine what the expected outcome of each section of the experiment would be. What are the pitfalls that must be looked down for? What possible errors might you come up with? How would you avoid or adapt for those errors? Stay away from human errors. Human errors can be avoided before they happen!
References. Any references that you require. I am assuming you will require several! I’m not going to mandate a minimum number, but all the information that you look up, or need to support your assertion, ensure you have a reference. Use APA style to cite everything in text.
