Environmental Conservation, Climate Change and Air Pollution

I had one of your writers complete an assignment that i will attach under files.
I turn it in and it has raised questions that need to be answered. I have attached two other students replies and their questions should be explained.
This is questions my professor wants explained. I’m writing with some feedback on the essay you submitted to the workshop group. On my reading, the main takeaways I get from your essay is that there is some value in comparing the photographs of J. Henry Fair (featured in Edoardo Liotta interview) to the film Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock. Namely, the comparison would reveal that there are “different symbolic styles used… to exhibit ways in which humans are contributing to polluting the environment hence triggering further climate change.” This is a strong basis for the essay, however, I’m not sure the material you choose to look at quite follows through on this topic.

For example, although you discuss “symbolic styles” and your first paragraph mentions “pictorial representations,” you don’t really discuss the photographs at all, instead talking about German coal use. (I should also point out at that Liotta was the interviewer, but J. Henry Fair is the photographer).

Similarly, the second paragraph includes a very promising phrase about how the “film uses irony when it points the US administration flouting efforts towards fighting climate change” but it’s not quite clear to me where the irony is, since the Dakota Access Pipeline seems like a project that is in lock-step with the Administration’s removal of “energy effiency” and “climate change” from its websites. When I think back to your main topic (“different symbolic styles”) I am curious about how irony is being used as a style in Awake, but it’s not quite clear in your essay.

Like Mara, I’m also curious about how the film promotes “going indigenous” or what the means to you. This might have been an essay in its own right, with a thesis like, “Awake promotes an ethic of ‘going indigenous’ through its filmmaking style, etc.,” but at the moment it’s not quite clear what you mean.

Again, I’m quite intrigued by your main thesis — that it is productive and important to compare the “symbolic styles” of Fair’s photography and the Awake documentary — and I think that you have promising leads into “pictorial representation,” filmic “irony,” and however it is that you think the film promotes “going indigenous.” But the importance of doing this comparison isn’t quite stated strongly enough, and there’s not quite enough close reading of the photography or the film to prove your claims. If you were to revise this essay, I would want to see you flesh out exactly what is “different” in these symbolic styles, and how each style might prompt the action on climate change that you explain at the end of the essay.
