3 3 unread replies. 4 4 replies.
There is no denying that oil has played a central role in political and environmental initiatives within the United States. At the center of this debate is cost. This cost encompasses not just the price of oi itself, but also that of opportunity (jobs), impact on the environment, and the nature of our relationships with other countries.
This activity will help you achieve Module Outcomes 1 and 2.
Note: For the discussions in this course, do not read classmates’ posts until after you have composed and submitted your initial post.
Search the internet to determine how the cost of oil has fluctuated over the last calendar year. Then, visit the NERC website (Links to an external site.) and identify the respective reliability coordinator for either the state you currently live in or one you previously lived in. Once identified, proceed to your reliability coordinator’s website and determine how energy prices varied over the same calendar year in your reliability coordinator’s area. Next, search for current events that may explain how and why each has fluctuated. Describe what role oil costs played in these fluctuations. And last, locate reputable sources that corroborate your conclusion(s).
Applying your research results, post a discussion thread that is no less than 350 words and no more than 500 words (not including the References list), addressing the following questions:
How has the cost of oil fluctuated over the last calendar year?
How have energy prices in your reliability coordinator’s area varied over the same calendar year?
What correlation exists between oil costs and energy prices?
How do you expect each to fluctuate over the next calendar year?
Make sure to support your assertions with reputable sources.
After posting your initial thread, reply to at least two of your classmates, adding to their discussions and sharing your insights. Ensure that each reply is no less than 50 words and no more than 150 words (not including the References list).
Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. It is recommended that you write your post in a document first. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on “Reply.” Then copy/paste the text into the message field, and click “Post Reply.”
To respond to a peer, click “Reply” beneath her or his post and continue as with an initial post.
