Degas at the Opéra March 1 – July 5, 2020
Edgar Degas (1834 – 1917) was best known for his drawings and paintings of the ballet. He was enamored with the beauty and pageantry which he saw from the audience, painting moments captured during performances. His body of work became richer when he infiltrated the backstage world of rehearsals and practices, depicting the not -so -glamorous moments, managing to still make those candid full of beauty and mystery. He also loved the opera, and he created an equally compelling body of work based on the operas he saw in Paris, which this exhibition is rooted.
