Philosophy discussion post

There is no minimum page/word count required. No citations needed. Assignment is a discussion post. Textbook is Philosophy Here And Now 3rd edition by Lewis Vaughn though this discussion does not refer to the book. It instead is based on two videos. Unfortunately, I cannot link to either of them. The first is titled ”
How Free Will Probes Mind and Consciousness – Patrick Haggard” and it apparently from a series called “Free Will: Key To Consciousness?”. The video is 13 minutes 30 seconds long. The second video is called “Do human brains have free will?” this is from the Closer To Truth series, season 6 episode 9. 26 minutes 46 seconds long. The discussion prompt is as follows:

Now that you have some experience writing and thinking about philosophy, I want to try a more open-ended discussion prompt for the remainder of the term, allowing you to key in on the most interesting and controversial claims from the videos.

1. Write about a claim from the videos that you found surprising. You should paraphrase the claim and any deductive arguments, clearly identifying the conclusion and main supporting premises, or inductive evidence that the author of the claim provided in support. Then you should say why you found the claim surprising. Would someone with an opposing viewpoint to your find the claim less surprising? Explain.

2. Very often the people being interviewed in our videos give arguments to support their conclusions. An argument is a series of premises that are supposed to provide reasons for accepting the conclusion. Describe, in detail, an argument from the video for a conclusion you disagreed with. Say what you think might be wrong with the argument. Do the premises fail to deductively entail or inductively support the conclusion? Or is a premise outright false? (Note well: stating that you disagree with the conclusion does not tell me what is wrong with the argument).

3. Now identify an argument for a conclusion you are inclined to agree with. Describe the argument. Since you agree with the conclusion, you have a motivation to defend the argument. Think about how someone might attack the argument and try to preempt their attack.

The discussion post does not need to be lengthy.
