This paper will help you enhance your awareness of diverse identities and to support your skills in observing similarities and differences in culturally informed behaviors and contexts. Important knowledge is gained through direct observations and it is critical for cultural competence to develop these observational skills. In order to gain experience with observation, you will choose one of the documentaries listed below and make connections to concepts from class.
Your task is to watch 1 documentary from the list below, and write a brief 1.5 -2 page reflection paper that describes your selected documentary, reflect on what you learned, and then apply at least 2 theories/concepts discussed in class. The main goal is to think critically and connect these examples of diverse identities to two theories/concepts we have learned about in class.
The paper must be double spaced with one inch margins, Times New Roman font, size 12. Points will be deducted for not following the correct format OR for adding extra spaces to lengthen paper.
You will be successful in this activity if you can:
Give a basic (1-2 paragraph) summary of the documentary and an explanation as to why you selected it.
Discuss at least 1-2 things that you learned or that surprised you from the documentary.
Connect an identity and experience portrayed in the documentary to at least two specific concepts discussed in class. Must clearly label concepts/models using accepted terminology.
Compare/Contrast an identity and experience portrayed in the documentary to one of YOUR identities or lived experiences.
