Using the Ravenstein’s Laws of Migration students will, individually or in groups of two, explain an international migration pattern to the United States from the past or currently. Using push and pull factors explain how migration affected source and target countries. What were push and pull factors for the migration pattern you chose? How many migrants can the United States successfully accept and integrate? What effect does emigration have on the countries who lost those citizens that emigrated? Students will answer these questions and more as Part 1 of the project and submit as an essay not shorter than two pages.

Part 1:

Questions to consider:

Students will research migration patterns (ethnicities) to the US historically or today and explain them through Ravenstein’s Laws of Migration.
What were push and pull factors that led to the migration?
What effect did the migration have on the source countries? Brain drain, young gone etc.
What effect did the migration have on target country?
Consider the programs USA has for migrant resettlement and find out how many of migrants can we successfully resettle (economic migrants, refugees, chain migrants, environmental migrants, etc).
What type of population changes do we see in these countries (source and target countries) – give specific numbers.
Answer any other questions that you may find being reasonable in helping you complete the assignment successfully.
