Summary and Critical Analysis of a Research Article
Selecting an Article –
Find a recent (<10 years old) original research article in the field of exercise science that most interests you.
I suggest using either Google Scholar or Pubmed to search for an article.
You must use an original research article, not a review article or meta-analysis
Original research contain Intro, Methods, Results, and Discussion and generate data that is being published for the first time.
Review articles summarize a large body of research and do not contain any of the above sections
Meta-analysis combines data numerous studies that has previously been published and analyses for it for group effects. It has the same elements as an original research article like the methods, results, and discussion, but does not contain original data. An easy way to determine if the paper is a meta-analysis is to search the document (ctl+F) for the words – meta-analysis

Instruction for Writing the Assignment –
Write an approximately 1-2 page summary (1.5x spacing) and a critical analysis that discusses the following:
Why this line of research is important?
What are the objectives of the study and were they clearly defined?
How did the authors test these objectives
Describe their major findings
What are the conclusions drawn by the authors and are they supported by the results
Critically assess the paper and determine a major short coming of the study, data that would have been helpful, or a major limitation of the study.
include a citation to your chosen article at the bottom of your submission (example below)
