For this assignment, I would like you to critically assess a movie or book that features a person with a mental illness. Bear in mind that you are reviewing the film or book as a psychology student. Based on your knowledge from class and your text, determine if the film or book accurately depicts the disorder or if it is flawed. Be sure to discuss the observable (or described) behaviors that are consistent with the disorder.
All papers should begin with the following sentences: “For this assignment, I have selected the disorder of (name the disorder). The DSM-5 criteria for this disorder are (list them). DSM criteria can be located in your textbook chapter that corresponds with the disorder or you may find a copy of the DSM 5 in the library. You must cite the DSM as a reference.

How was person with mental illness portrayed? You may use one of the following movies: As Good As It Gets (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), A Beautiful Mind (Schizophrenia), Fatal Attraction (Borderline Personality Disorder), Coyote Ugly (Social Anxiety), Matchstick Men (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), Silver Linings Playbook (Bipolar Disorder), Rainman (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Do NOT write a summary of the book (this is not a book report). DO write descriptions of the psychological symptoms you read about. If the book portrays the development or cause of the illness, describe it. What did you learn from considering the psychological disturbance in the book?
