As we conclude this Global Perspectives course, the purpose of this final Problem Statement is to bring together the elements that we have discussed throughout the semester, and provide a perspective on them that you can take with you as you move on now to your next life’s chapter – whatever that may be.
We have covered an array of subject area including:
Issues addressed by the World Economic Forum last January
oThe Fourth Industrial Revolution
oGlobalization 4.0
Global Economic systems
Global Political systems
Global Legal systems
Global Geopolitics, issues on a country, regional basis
China’s Vision of Victory
Global Social issues, analyses from numerous country, regional perspectives
The Power of Unreasonable People: How Social Entrepreneurs Create Markets that Change the World
The UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Millennium Development Goals
As you begin to address this final problem statement, take into consideration these two quotes:
1.Albert Einstein advised: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
2.As philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer observed: “Every person takes the limits of their vision for the limits of the world, therefore it is important for us to expand our vision toward a global perspective.”
By definition: “global perspective” is a comprehensive lens through which you see the world around you. It shapes how we perceive and understand own identities and the identity of people we interact with, as we begin to understand what goes into shaping our respective cultures. It brings together the understanding of globalization and how interconnected each region of the world is economically, politically and socially.
The Problem Statement that you will address is this: It seems that in no other time in history have we needed a global perspective more than we do today. Since a global perspective refers to how you see the world around you, it become critical for you to (1) identify what that world looks like and (2) what you believe are essential elements to proactively deal with these.
The Assignment to deal with the Problem Statement is this: Since the problem statement is quite broad, we need to break down how we deal with it to make it manageable. The actual assignment re the problem statement is for you to do this:
1.Create your own new definition of global perspectives using the above definition plus the quotes from Einstein and Schopenhauer
2.Select one underdeveloped, developing country. If unsure what qualifies as an under-developed country, check out this website: https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/underdeveloped-countries/
a.Email me with your country – no duplicates among students
3.Select 5 (five) subject areas from the above list that apply to your selected country
4.Define, explain and apply the relevance of each of these subject areas to your country
5.Identify a common, comprehensive theme that we addressed during the course that links each of the five subject areas; for example, disfunction, global domination; globalization 4, ethnic cleansing; leadership- or lack thereof; poverty; inequality; corruption; Belt Road Initiative and its impacts; a country’s debt, and so on.
6.Identify the name of your selected country’s ambassador to the US. This is not a US person but someone from your identified country who represents her/his country’s diplomatic interests in the US; example, Japan’s ambassador TO the US is Ambassador Shinsuke J. Sugiyama
Prepare three recommendations to give to your identified country’s ambassador to the US that would help alleviate the country’s problems associated with your identified theme.
Justify and support your recommendations with facts and references from country research AND the course materials – books, Power Point presentations, course-related assigned videos and articles that provide both specific and general concepts that can relate to your common theme and relate directly to your recommendations. Cite these per the instructions.
Provide the references of the materials you cited in your memo
