Instructions
Reminders:
-Do not share the questions with any classmates while the test is open.
-While you should draw on our course materials (including textbooks), do not use any materials from the Internet. Vericite will check all submissions for plagiarism (see below).
-You have 75 minutes to submit your response once you open the exam.
Directions:
-Answer ONE of the following essay options. Write your response in Word or another file format and then copy and paste it into the provided text box (it will not allow you to attach a file).
-Your answer is worth 80 points and will be graded for its coherence, persuasiveness, and comprehensiveness.
-As we saw with the model response, critically evaluate the historical evidence presented here, link it to related primary sources, and use those primary sources to explain broader historical events and changes.
-All relevant materials from lecture, videos, and textbooks should be used. While it’s important to answer all questions in the block, please write one integrated response (NOT several short responses to each particular question).
Please address both sets of questions—Primary Source and Secondary Assessment—for the option you choose (designated as A, B, and C on the questions). You can address them in any order.
Plagiarism Warning: Do NOT use any materials outside of our classroom, including materials from the internet. You must only use assigned textbooks, Canvas documents, lectures, videos, and discussions. Plagiarism will result in an F for the assignment. While you now have access to your books, you won’t have time to scour them for quotations and re-reading of passages (that’s why you need to use the study guide). If you choose to use one or two quotations, you can just put use the quote and place a parenthetical reference, like the one below. Quotations are certainly not required. And re-typing of extensive quotations (more than one sentence) is strongly discouraged. This should be an original interpretation that synthesizes information from many sources.
Citation format: As the authors of American Promise argue, “The power of the Spanish monarchy spread the message throughout sixteenth-century Europe that a New World empire could bankroll Old World Ambitions” (Promise, 41).
-Note this format’s sequence: quoted material, quotation mark, parenthesis with page reference, and then period. If you have an electronic version (without page numbers, you can cite the chapter number, and, if they use it, the paragraph number).
-You can just use Promise for American Promise and Source for Going to the Source. If you use one of the Canvas primary sources, a brief title and the page number of the Canvas document will work (Washington’s Farewell, p. 2).
