For this assignment, your task is to have a conversation with someone of a different (sub)cultural background, and “interview” this person to learn what differences and/or similarities exist in your cultural experiences, histories, values, rules, norms, customs, mores, environment, etc. Remember: you should also take this opportunity to learn what perceptions this person has of your own cultural background, customs and values!
By using the first-hand knowledge gathered through your interview and combining it with your own research on the (sub)culture acquired through outside readings, writing includes:
1. describes the person you selected for your cross-cultural interaction
2. explains the context in which the “interview” was solicited and conducted
3. includes some background research/readings on the (sub)culture of your subject
4. examines what differences and similarities you learned about your respective cultures
5. discusses what you personally gained from this in-depth cross-cultural interaction
Papers should be typed, double-spaced, and include at least three (3) references. At least one reference must be a scholarly source. One reference may be the textbook (which is considered a scholarly source). Non-scholarly references may be used as long as they are from a reputable source. You will be evaluated on clarity of writing, integration of intercultural concepts, and resourcefulness in the choice of the interview. Please use APA format for citations and bibliography.
