Teachers instructions:
SRP 2: Persuasion
For this short response paper, you will be required to compose a 1-2 page persuasive essay (it’s really a sales pitch in some ways). You may choose from one of the topics below or one of your own choosing. Regardless of your persuasive paper topic, you must include three appeals (with at least two of each type: pathos, logos, ethos). For credit, I would like you to identify the appeal that you’ve used in the margin in parentheses like so (pathos) etc. You are forbidden to use outside sources for this SRP (or any SRP); just use your reasoning skills and imaginations! And if you really get into this SRP, you just might want to turn it into your rough draft for CE 2! Just think, if you get a solid two pages, you would just need to add a page or two for the rough draft! Yippee!
Here are some sample topics to get you thinking:
1. What household/personal/time-saving/life-saving product should we be using?
2. What is the best TV show/movie of today or in the past? What TV show/movie should we never watch?
3. What is the best/worst sport?
4. Why should we read your favorite book?
5. What good habit should we adopt? What bad habit should we avoid?
6. What clothing item should everyone/no one own?
7. Why is _______ the best/worst color?
8. Why is _______ the best/worst way to relax?
9. Why should we dance, exercise, buy flowers, get an education, get a spa treatment, sing, attend a rock concert, support an ailing parent, buy a new house, save money, etc.?
10. What is the best/worst day of the week? What is the best/worst month of the year?
The paper must be typed according to MLA guideline, of course. And don’t forget to underline or highlight or boldface your three dictionary words! (Basically, these three dictionary words are any three dictionary words that are fairly difficult words that one doesn’t normally use in conversation. Include them in the essay and make sure they are Bolded or highlighted )
No sources are necessary.
