Completion of the Research Review will provide students with experience reviewing research literature, as well as up-to-date knowledge of the latest findings in aging policy and services research.
Project Description:
All are required to write a 5-8-page Research Review on one of the following topic areas:
The evolution of aging services in the US
Comparing aging services or policies in another country to the US
Comparing aging services or policies in another state to Georgia
Impact of ageism on aging policy or services
Assuring quality of long-term services and supports
The impact of aging services on health and well-being outcomes
Cutting edge issues in aging (e.g., assisted technology, innovative housing options)
The Research Review should contain:
1. Article reviews, analyzing no fewer than 3 articles, reports or evaluations. The review should describe:
a. The policy issue or the service addressed
b. Primary research question(s)
c. Setting(s) related to research (e.g., home, nursing home, workplace)
d. Research methods
e. Key findings of articles
f. Implications for services (i.e., describe what the article suggests could be done improve services for older adults), and/or implications for policy (i.e., describe what the research suggests could be done to improve policy for older adults).
2. Student Reflection and Analysis
The Research Review should analyze the interconnections between information presented in the articles and topics presented in class (whether through class discussion, presentation, text or other means). The student should describe the value (or limitations) of the articles reviewed to enhancing aging policy and/or services.
The Research Review should be 5-8 pages (double spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins), using full citation in APA style.
Source articles must be published since 2015 in relevant academic journals. Examples include:
The Gerontologist, Health Affairs, Implementation Science, Journal of Aging Studies, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Journal of Applied Gerontology, Journals of Gerontology.
