Psychology Paper Assignment – due toward the end of the semester:
Write a paper detailing how psychology is relevant to your life. The paper should cite specific examples from your own life, which answer the following question:
“How do you, yourself, use your knowledge of psychology in your everyday life?”
This paper is due toward the end of the semester so that you can use what you’ve learned in the class to help you. Look back at the topics we’ve covered, and choose one that is especially interesting to you. Maybe you’ve learned enough about yourself or someone close to you through psychological assessments to apply your knowledge of personality to your own life in some way. Or maybe you’ve applied some of B.F. Skinner’s operant conditioning principles in training your kids or your pets. Maybe you know someone with a psychological disorder, and have learned first hand how this can affect a person’s life. Whatever topic you choose must be somehow relevant to you personally, as well as demonstrate an understanding of a psychological topic you’ve learned in this class. Alternatively, if you do not believe psychology is relevant in any way to your everyday life, state why you feel that way.
Your paper should be:
3-4 pages long (at least 9000 words)
Turned in to the Psychology Paper Assignment Folder on the D2L course website
(emailed papers and hard copies are NOT accepted).
In Microsoft Word (.doc) format, rich text format (.rtf), or text (.txt) format. Save
your document in one of these formats before submitting it. I have MS Word for
the PC. If I cannot open and read your document, I cannot give you credit for it.
Do NOT post your paper to the discussion board; the other students in the class
do not need to have access to it.
Turned in by midnight on the due date designated on the syllabus. Note that late
papers may be submitted to the Late Papers Assignment Folder, and are worth up to half credit. Papers received after the end of the Quiz Makeup Week are worth zero.
The paper will be graded according to the extent to which it:
1. Answers the question posed above
2. Demonstrates a working knowledge of general psychology concepts
3. Relies on your own experience and self-reflection
4. Is on time and formatted correctly
5. Uses proper spelling and grammar
Note that this paper is NOT a research paper. It should be taken from your own experience and imagination,
using your knowledge of psychology at the time it is written. Do not include a bibliography.
