Writing Your Final Exam Proposal Writing a proposal is very similar to completing an abstract for your final paper. It requires you to think your work through to the end and is the shortest outline format to use. In preparation for your final exam, you will write a one paragraph proposal/abstract that includes each of the following: (a) Briefly explain the question you are addressing and its importance to African American life and history. (b) Provide one or two sentences explaining your argument in response to the question you selected. (c) In two or more sentences, detail one or more sources that support the point you make in the previous sentences. Note: This is an important part of the abstract because it helps ground your work in the scholarship of other researchers. Make sure you choose the best representatives from the field(s) that intersects with your chosen topic. (d) In one or two sentences, explain how the analysis of your chosen subject offers your reader(s) a deeper or better understanding. Finally, list two or three possible sources below your paragraph. Please use the citation format of your major to list your sources. If you are unsure about what this format is, or if you have not declared a major yet, please use MLA format. I have included two brief examples proposal paragraphs below and highlighted the thesis statements within each one.
