Required sources: the textbook, a Grove Art Online article, a periodical, and a book
No use of sources other than those listed above and the page from the museum website from which you obtained the artwork
Citation of all sources in a bibliography and correct use of direct quotation
An illustration of the artwork and a label identifying the title, artist (if known), and date of the artwork
Minimum length of 600 words
Instructions
1) Write the Stylistic Analysis Paper.
Using the research sources you found for the article summaries, write a paper that answers the following questions:
What historical style or styles does the artwork belong to? Use both the work’s visual style and subject matter to answer this question.
Is it a typical or atypical example of this style or styles? Why?
Review the Paper Organization and Writing Technique section of the Writing Guidelines document and use it when writing this paper.
Provide an illustration of the work along with the following: artist’s name (if known), title, size, medium and date.
Make sure your paper is at least 600 words long, not counting any labels for images or the paper as a whole.
Give the paper a descriptive and engaging title.
2) Cite your sources.
All information you get from any research source must be cited within the paper.
Direct quotes must be placed inside quotation marks.
All your research sources must be listed in your bibliography.
Do not copy passages from your research sources, change a few words in them, and present them as your own writing. Either quote your sources directly or summarize them completely in your own words.
You may use sources from periodicals, books, Grove Art Online, and the page of the museum website featuring your artwork for this paper. You may not use any other internet sources besides these.
Follow the MLA citation style as described in the Writing Guidelines.
I provided an image of the artwork. It is titled “The Dissolute Household” by Jan Steen. You obviously do not have to use the textbook as a source and if you can not get a grove art online source that is fine as well.
