SUMMATIVE ESSAY

MSM 6610—THEORIES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR —SUMMATIVE ESSAY— This essay is an extension of your previously written Application Essay, which constituted an opportunity to explore selected theories of organizational behavior in an applied context. In this extension, you will enhance your work by inserting a literature review after the introduction and before the Organizational Context section. As before, apply concepts as presented in class. To convert your Application Essay into your Summative Essay, perform three tasks: (a) add the literature review as described below; (b) reread your Application Essay in search of opportunities to correct errors, add qualifying sources, or extend commentary; and (c) add an abstract. Literature review. Immediately after the introduction, before the Organizational Context section. Use a primary section header for this section (centered, bold, title-styled capitalization: Literature Review). This section should consist of three paragraphs. Follow these guidelines: First paragraph: Provide an overview of what theories you will discuss. Your first topic to cover consists of the theory (or main theory) that you addressed in the Organizational Context section of the Application Essay. Your second topic to cover is the theory (or main theory) that you addressed in your Theoretical Dynamic section. Write at least two sentences in this paragraph. Second paragraph: Explain the theory (or main theory) that you addressed in the Organizational Context section of the Application Essay. Solely explain the theory, citing scholarly sources and writing objectively. Make no mention of the anecdote or your personal experiences. Third paragraph: Explain the theory (or main theory) that you addressed in the Theoretical Dynamic section of the Application Essay. Again, solely explain the theory, citing scholarly sources and writing objectively. Make no mention of the anecdote or your personal experiences. Abstract. Only after completing your paper, write the abstract. To do so, copy topic sentences from the body, one after another, to form a paragraph (but ignore the topic sentence from the concluding discussion). Then edit the paragraph, if needed, to improve the flow. Insert the abstract after the title page and before the introduction, using page breaks before and after. Note that the abstract does not count toward the required length of the paper. N.B.: If you have composed your sections effectively, the first sentence of each section’s first paragraph will be the respective section’s topic sentence. Refer to the posted sample of an APA-styled paper and the guidelines for the Application Essay to structure this paper correctly. By itself, your literature review may reach about two pages. Cite at least one additional source in this essay, beyond what the Application Essay required. If you have yet to find at least five qualifying journal articles (the requirement for the Application Essay), you will need to make up for the difference here, or fix your reference entries, if needed. Standards. See the posted APA-styled sample paper. Minimum length is 2,000 words, from the start of the introduction (after the abstract) to the end of the concluding section, excluding quoted or parenthetical content, and excluding the abstract. Cite at least the textbook and six (6) qualifying sources based on the criteria listed in the syllabus. Remember your doi-numbers!
