Chapter 6, The Beast of Bias of Solutions for Smart Alex Tasks

Part 1: Discussion Board Testing Statistical Assumptions – Guided

Complete the reading for this section, with emphasis on reading Chapter 6 in your assigned textbook for this course. After reading the chapter, refer to the supplemental (optional) content provided in case you have any remaining questions. For this part of your assignment, you will follow along with Smart Alex’s tasks in Chapter 6: The Beast of Bias located on page 210 of the required reading. To complete the first part of the assignment, do the following:

Open the provided dataset referenced in Smart Alex’s Tasks on page 210 of this chapter entitled, SPSSExam.sav.
Open the file provided for you entitled, Chapter 6,The Beast of Bias of Solutions for Smart Alex Tasks. This file walks through the instructions to conduct the tasks for Section 5.8 in your textbook and an explanation for what you should be looking for in the output.
Using the solutions PDF guide I have provided and Chapter 6 in your textbook, complete tasks 2 through 8 on page 210. To do this, use the datasetSPSSExam.sav provided for download. Run each of the analyses and reference the solutions guide if you get stuck.
Annotate the output the way you were instructed to for week 1 of this course. In this case, use the “note” sections of the annotated output to answer the questions for each of the tasks 2 through 8 in a few sentences. These should be immediately following the tables in the output. Use the solutions guide if you have trouble interpreting any of the statistics, but you should rephrase the answers in your own words.
Submit your annotated output for tasks 2 through 8.

Part 2: Testing Statistical Assumptions – Independent

For this part of the assignment, you will add to the reporting you have completed in Assignment 1.1 of this week. You should use the dataset you formatted in the first section of week 1 entitled Leadership_Data.sav for this assignment. You should also use Chapter 6 in your textbook, and the materials you used in part 1 for this assignment.

Open your saved leadership dataset. The data in this file are of employees at a large firm that we will refer to as Bellevue Corporation. The employees were asked to respond to a scale assessing how important different aspects of the workplace are to them personally. This was broken into 11 subscales (listed below). Each subscale score reflects the employee’s average response on that subscale. For the subscales (variables) listed below, run the same descriptive statistics you ran in tasks 2 through 4 of the previous part on the following variables:

Stability – refers to the importance of stability in the employee’s job and organization
Innovation – refers to the importance of working in a job and organization that emphasized innovation
Autonomy – refers to the importance of autonomy in their work
Pace – refers to the importance of work pace and deadlines in their job satisfaction
Culture – refers to the importance of a positive and collectively-oriented work culture
Influence – refers to the employee’s need for influence at work and to do work that has an impact
Direction – refers to the importance of directiveness from their supervisor or leader
Competition – refers to the importance of competition and opportunities to advance
Structure – refers to the employee’s personal need for structure in completing work tasks
Pragmatism – refers to the importance of a pragmatic supervisor or leader at work
Hierarchy – refers to their preference for clear organizational hierarchy
Your descriptive statistics should include the same statistics you ran in tasks 2 through 4 previously.

Once you have run the analysis, export, and annotate your output for review. Next, write an APA style results section describing the descriptive statistics for each of these subscales. Discuss the normality analyses you conducted and mention any skewness or kurtosis noted in the distributions for the subscales.
